SharePoint 2010 101 Code Samples

21st February 2012
The Microsoft Office Developer Documentation Team has today published on MSDN 101 Code Samples that illustrate a very wide range of programming techniques for SharePoint 2010. These go all the way from first steps for the beginner, such as working with disposable objects, right up to advanced and involved examples, such as building a custom Service Application. Hot topics, such as integrating SharePoint and Azure, are also covered. The code examples are fully commented with explanations and steps for deployment and use.

Web Dojo's Principal Consultant Alistair Matthews, working with our friends at Point8020, contributed to these samples and we hope everyone in the SharePoint developer community finds them useful!

Updated Version of the Administering SharePoint Course

20th February 2012
A new version of the "Configuring and Administering Microsoft SharePoint 2010" instructor-led training course has been released by Microsoft Learning. This version, 10174B, is fully revised for SharePoint Server 2010 Service Pack 1 and includes a new module on SharePoint Online and Office 365. Web Dojo consultants worked closely with Microsoft to deliver these revisions and we think that the course is now streamlined and more closely aligned with SharePoint's direction in 2012. We hope students will agree!

Configuring and Administering SharePoint Course Published

12th November 2010
Microsoft Learning has just released Course 10174A, entitled "Configuring and Administering Microsoft SharePoint 2010". Web Dojo's Principal Consultant, Alistair Matthews, contributed to this course - especially to module 6, "Securing Content", and module 7, "Managing SharePoint Customizations". If you want to get your IT professionals skilled-up on the latest version of SharePoint this is an excellent place to start - it'll give them a thorough grounding and solid understanding of the product.

Also, check out Microsoft's other classroom training courses on SharePoint 2010.

Although formats like e-learning and distance learning have improved greatly in recent years, it's still our opinion that instructor-led training, delivered by a talented teacher in person, is the Rolls-Royce of learning methods and excellent value.

Web Dojo creates a Sound Cloud client for WebOS devices

20th September 2010
Web Dojo has developed and released an application for the WebOS platform that runs on Palm smart phones like the Pre and Pixi. The application is called SoundDojo and is a client for the SoundCloud platform - which, not surprisingly, is a cloud-based music exchange platform. SoundCloud is popular with artists, record labels, and the music industry in general for exchanging music, keeping up with artists and generate a buzz. If you're a Palm smart phone owner, you can use SoundDojo to play music by artists you follow and those who follow you. You can also search for other artists and listen to their music.
This is a new area for Web Dojo, since it has nothing to do with SharePoint or even Microsoft, and it came about simply because we are both WebOS users and SoundCloud users and we're fascinated by both technologies. Should it prove successful, there will certainly be more Web Dojo/WebOS apps on the way and WebOS/SharePoint integation is an obvious area that would help a lot of users. If you're interested in this, please let us know!

Latest Projects

4th March 2010
Life in the Web Dojo has been busy for months, but a brief hiatus allow me to update you before diving back into it. So here's a summary of the projects we've been working on.

Since November we've been:

  • Writing sample code that integrates Silverlight and SharePoint Web Parts. As you know, SharePoint 2010 includes a Silverlight Web Part to host applications. This sample code shows how to integrate Silverlight applications with Web Part connections.
  • Writing demos for SharePoint Composite applications. This shows how easy it is for non-developers to create their own rich applications without coding in 2010.
  • Writing some advanced training on the SharePoint 2010 Content workload.
  • Getting involved in Whitepapers on SQL Azure and the Microsoft Sync Framework.

So basically, it's all go.

Web Dojo makes a splash at the SharePoint Conference

23rd November 2009
Web Dojo was involved in developing content for the SharePoint Conference that took place last month in Las Vegas. We've recently received good feedback on the Hands On Lab we created. This was about SharePoint Designer 2010 and how to use it to connect SharePoint 2010 to external data, create workflows, and edit the user interface ~ it was the fifth most popular, with 267 people completing it over the week. Even better, its average score was 4.14 out of 5, which makes it the fourth highest rated. Of course, we're not happy with fourth, but let's say its a good start!
